Nottingham Forest have completed the signing of Brazilian midfielder Douglas Luiz from Juventus on an initial season-long loan, with an obligation to buy next summer.

The 27-year-old, who won Olympic gold with Brazil in Tokyo, joined Juventus from Aston Villa last year for around £42 million but struggled to cement his place, making just 27 appearances in Turin.

“I am really happy to be here, it’s a big club and I decided to come here because I can see the ambition the club has,” Luiz said in a statement.

The midfielder began his career at Vasco da Gama before moving to Manchester City in 2017, though he never featured for the club and spent two seasons on loan at Girona.

He later made his mark at Aston Villa from 2019 to 2023 before moving to Serie A.

Forest, who secured a seventh-place finish in the Premier League last season, face Crystal Palace on Sunday.
