Fresh videos showing incidents of bullying and assault at Igbinedion Education Centre have triggered widespread concern, with many observers suggesting the attacks may be linked to a suspected student cult group known as “D12 gang.”

The controversy began after a viral video surfaced last Friday showing a student being flogged, kicked and repeatedly stamped on the head and ribs by fellow pupils inside an empty classroom. The disturbing footage sparked outrage across social media.

In response, the school management issued a statement later that night confirming that the students involved had been identified and expelled.

However, additional videos that later emerged online have raised further questions about the nature of the attacks. In one of the clips, four pupils are seen kneeling while a group of supposed senior students approach them before launching a brutal assault.

Another video shows a student being beaten while other pupils supervise the attack. Voices heard in the background are heard warning the victim not to run.

A third video circulating online suggests the assault may have been a revenge attack following an earlier incident involving a female student.

The scenes have led many commentators online to liken the attacks to cult initiation practices allegedly linked to a group called “D12 gang.”

But a staff member of the institution, who spoke on condition of anonymity, dismissed claims that the incident was related to cult initiation. According to the official, the assault stemmed from an earlier dispute involving a student who had been suspended.

Meanwhile, the Edo State Police Command has stepped into the matter.

The Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, has directed the Divisional Police Officer in charge of the area to visit the school and begin a detailed investigation into the incidents.

Police spokesperson Eno Ikoedem said the directive was issued to ensure a comprehensive probe into the bullying allegations despite disciplinary actions already taken by the school.

“The command wishes to assure the public that the perpetrators involved in the bullying will be arrested and made to face the law accordingly, in line with their ages and in accordance with the provisions of the law,” the statement said.

The police also condemned acts of bullying, violence and intimidation among students, assuring that anyone found culpable would face the full weight of the law.

Authorities further urged members of the public to remain calm and assist the investigation by providing credible information that could aid the ongoing probe.
