BERNABEU GROANS AS GIRONA HOLD REAL MADRID IN TITLE SETBACK.
Real Madrid were left frustrated at the Santiago Bernabéu after being held to a 1-1
draw by Girona, a result that dents their LaLiga title ambitions.
After a lively opening, the hosts eventually broke through early in the second half
when Federico Valverde unleashed a powerful long-range effort that slipped past
Paulo Gazzaniga.
But Madrid’s lead lasted only until the 62 nd minute, when Thomas Lemar punished
slack defending, drilling a low strike beyond Andriy Lunin to silence the home crowd.
The hosts pushed for a late winner, with Kylian Mbappe going close, but Girona held
firm to secure a valuable point and leave Madrid’s title hopes hanging in the balance.
