Bayer Leverkusen backed up their 2-0 first leg wins in Greece with a composed
goalless draw against Olympiacos FC to progress from their UEFA Champions
League knockout play-off tie.
The result extended Leverkusen’s unbeaten record against Greek opposition in
Europe to five matches (W3, D2).
Patrik Schick, who struck twice in the first leg, almost added another inside five
minutes at the BayArena but guided his header narrowly wide.
From there, the hosts adopted a disciplined defensive shape as Olympiacos saw
more of the ball without creating clear chances before the break.
The visitors showed greater urgency after half-time, with Gelson Martins forcing
Janis Blaswich into a sharp low save.
Martins later saw a deflected effort drift wide, while Alex Grimaldo struck the
woodwork at the other end.
As time ticked away, Olympiacos’ hopes of a comeback faded, and Leverkusen
comfortably secured their fifth clean sheet of the European campaign.
They now await a last-16 showdown with FC Bayern Munich or Arsenal FC.
