ProjectThe Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) has urged the Federal Government to prioritise indigenous companies in the supply of fencing materials for the Lagos airport perimeter fencing project, warning against the importation of Clear Vu fencing from abroad.

In a statement, MAN applauded the government’s infrastructure initiatives but insisted that the ongoing procurement process for the Murtala Mohammed International Airport security and fencing project must align with President Bola Tinubu’s “Nigeria First Policy.”

Director-General of MAN, Segun Ajayi-Kadir, stressed the need for contractors to comply with Executive Orders 003 and 005, which mandate support for local content in public procurement. “It is a matter of national interest that indigenous manufacturers are given priority in the supply of Clear Vu fencing rather than sourcing from outside the country,” he said.

Ajayi-Kadir maintained that Nigerian firms possess the capacity to produce fencing materials of global standard, warning that sidelining them in favour of imports would undermine government policy and rob the nation of vital benefits such as job creation, foreign exchange savings, increased tax revenues, and a stronger industrial base.

MAN further recalled that in previous projects, local manufacturers were excluded while fencing materials were imported from South Africa despite objections from the association. It described such practices as “discouraging” and at odds with the government’s local content drive.

“The Lagos Airport fencing project provides a unique opportunity to prove that the Nigeria First Policy is not mere rhetoric but a deliberate policy backed by full implementation,” MAN declared.

The association called on the Federal Government to intervene urgently, stressing that sourcing materials locally would ensure the project serves national interests. It also reaffirmed its commitment to working with government to promote inclusive growth and ensure public projects deliver maximum value to Nigerian businesses.
