Gov Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has announced his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party.

The governor disclosed this in a letter dated November 4 and addressed to the chairman of Sagba Abogunde Ward Two in Ede North Local Government Area.

The letter, which became public early Tuesday in Osogbo, explained that Adeleke’s decision was driven by what he described as the unresolved leadership crisis rocking the party at the national level.

“Due to the ongoing turmoil within the national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, I hereby resign my membership of the party with immediate effect,” the letter stated.

” I thank the PDP for the opportunities given to me for my elections as a Senator (Representative, Osun West) and as Governor of Osun State under the People’s Democratic Party.”

Although the governor did not mention the party he would be defecting to in the letter, it was learnt that Adeleke might be defecting to the Accord Party in the coming days.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed Aug. 8, 2026, for the governorship election in the state.
