BAL Sets Stage for Sixth Season Across Three Countries
The Basketball Africa League will return to South Africa, Morocco and Rwanda for its
sixth season, with eight teams advancing to the play-offs in Kigali from May 22 to 31.
BAL president Amadou Gallo Fall said the choice of hosts reflects strong sporting
cultures and growing basketball ecosystems, while FIBA Africa president Anibal
Manave praised the league’s expanding impact and the role of the Road to the BAL in
widening access across the continent.
The season will again blend basketball with African culture through music, fashion and
entertainment, alongside development and social impact programmes in host nations
and other markets including Nigeria, Kenya and Senegal.
The BAL continues to grow rapidly. Libya’s Alahli Tripoli lifted the title in 2025, as the
season reached fans in 214 countries, drew over 140,000 spectators and generated
more than 1.2 billion social media impressions.
The 12 teams for the 2026 season will be announced later.
