Eviction Saga: Femi Adebayo’s Family Breaks Silence, Says Estranged Wife Knew About Bank Foreclosure
A member of the family of popular Nollywood actor and filmmaker, Femi Adebayo, has addressed the controversy surrounding the recent eviction of his estranged wife, Omotayo Sanusi, popularly known as Iyan Aladuke, stating that she was fully aware of the circumstances that led to the development.
The eviction, which sparked widespread reactions on social media, had prompted claims that Adebayo abandoned his former partner. However, a family member, Mrs Taiwo Abdulmalik, dismissed the allegations, explaining that the incident resulted from a bank recovery process rather than a deliberate action by the actor.
According to Abdulmalik, the Lagos property in question was acquired by Adebayo through a bank loan, adding that the financial institution later commenced foreclosure after repayment challenges arose. She said Sanusi was aware of the loan arrangement and had prior knowledge of the impending recovery exercise several months before the eviction.
“She knew Femi bought those properties with a loan and that the bank was coming for recovery. Those properties belong to him alone, and he is still paying heavy principal with interest,” Abdulmalik said.
She further stated that following the bank’s takeover of the property, Adebayo ensured that Sanusi, members of her family and her staff were relocated to a short-let apartment, which he reportedly paid for in full.
“Immediately the bank moved in, he made sure she, her family members living with her and her staff were moved to a short-let apartment, and he paid for everything,” she said.
Abdulmalik added that the actor also encouraged his estranged wife to secure a new apartment, assuring her of financial support regardless of the cost.
“He told her to go and look for a house to rent and promised that he would pay, no matter how expensive it was,” she said.
The family member further disclosed that in 2022, Adebayo allegedly purchased a parcel of land beside Sanusi’s shop along Muritala Muhammed Way and registered it in her name as a form of backup investment. According to her, the actor was later shocked to learn that Sanusi had sold the land and spent the proceeds shortly after the bank foreclosure.
“He believed that land would serve as her backup. It was shocking to him when, shortly after the bank foreclosure, she informed him that she had sold the land and spent the money,” Abdulmalik said.
Addressing allegations of neglect, Abdulmalik insisted that Adebayo has continued to provide monthly upkeep for their son and remains actively involved in his life. She claimed that the actor spent about $50,000 last year to take the child to India for medical treatment.
“He has never stopped taking care of his son. He loves his children dearly and is very involved in their lives,” she said.
Abdulmalik appealed to the public to avoid rushing to judgment, describing the circulating narrative as incomplete.
“No one prays for a broken marriage. It’s unfortunate, but the story being told about him is not the complete truth,” she added.
When contacted for her reaction, Sanusi declined to comment on the allegations, describing the matter as personal.
“It’s a family matter. I have never granted an interview and I don’t think I want to start now. It’s really personal to me,” she said, adding that while different versions of the story have been circulating online, people are free to express their opinions.
