Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress from the Peoples Democratic Party.
The governor announced his defection at a stakeholders meeting held at the government house in Port Harcourt on Tuesday.
Fubara joined a host of his colleagues who have defected to the APC this year.
Political analysts say Fubara’s defection is likely to strengthen the APC’s influence in the South-South region ahead of the 2027 general elections, signaling a potential shift in the political dynamics of Rivers State and its neighbouring states.
Fubara’s defection comes months after a well-publicized fallout with former Governor Nyesom Wike, which saw him placed under a brief period of political “emergency rule” in Rivers State. The dispute, which created tensions within the party, is now seen by analysts as a key factor that pushed Fubara toward the APC, reshaping the state’s political landscape ahead of the 2027 elections.
