Defending champion Madison Keys marched into the last 16 of the Australian Open with
a commanding straight-sets victory over former world number one Karolina Pliskova on
Saturday.
The ninth seed needed just over an hour to seal a 6-3, 6-3 win at Rod Laver Arena and
will next face fellow American and sixth seed Jessica Pegula for a place in the quarter-
finals.
Keys leaned heavily on her serve in the Melbourne heat, admitting it helped her through
“a few tricky spots” as she delivered her most convincing performance of the
tournament so far.
