Lyon were forced to dig deep before a late surge earned them a 4-2 victory over 10-man PAOK, securing top spot in the UEFA Europa League league phase and condemning the visitors to a knockout phase playoff place.

PAOK struck first through Giorgos Giakoumakis, who finished neatly from Andrija Živković’s driven cross midway through the first half.

Lyon hit back soon after as 17-year-old Rémi Himbert netted his first senior goal to restore parity.

The game swung further in Lyon’s favour when Giannis Konstantelias was sent off for a second booking, and another teenager, Khalis Merah, put the hosts ahead early in the second half with a calm finish.

However, PAOK refused to fold and levelled through Soualiho Meïté’s powerful header from a corner.

Adam Karabec saw a late penalty strike the woodwork, but he redeemed himself with an 88th-minute winner before Alejandro Gomes wrapped up the points in stoppage time to seal a dramatic Lyon win.
