Vinicius Junior and Kylian Mbappe led the way as Real Madrid swept aside AS Monaco 6-1 at
the Santiago Bernabeu to tighten their grip near the top of the Champions League table.
Madrid struck early, Mbappe firing home from the edge of the box in the fifth minute with just
his second touch.
Monaco missed a golden chance to respond when Ansu Fati failed to convert from close range, a
miss that proved costly.
The hosts doubled their lead midway through the half as Vinicius’ clever outside-of-the-boot
cross picked out Mbappe to finish a swift counter-attack.
Monaco showed flashes of threat, Jordan Teze crashing a shot against the bar, but Madrid were
in control.
Any doubt vanished soon after the break when Franco Mastantuono scored from Vinicius’
second assist of the night.
Jude Bellingham later capped the rout by rounding the goalkeeper and finishing into an empty
net.
The win lifts Real Madrid up to second, while Monaco sit 21st and face elimination.
