Milan Edge Lazio to Go Top of Serie A After Leão Strike
AC Milan stretched their unbeaten run to 13 matches with a tight 1–0 victory over Lazio, a result built on resilience, sharp defending and another outstanding display from Mike Maignan.
The win briefly lifts Milan to the top of Serie A and extends their tally to eight clean sheets during this impressive spell.
Lazio arrived in strong form after collecting 10 points from their previous five league outings, and they nearly struck inside two minutes when Mario Gila’s header was clawed onto the bar by Maignan in a sensational early stop.
Milan, still yet to concede in the opening 25 minutes of any league match this season, survived that spell and restricted the visitors to half-chances for much of the first half.
Despite their defensive solidity, Milan struggled for fluency going forward and reached the interval without registering a shot on target.
Maignan again kept them level with a low save from Mattia Zaccagni, as the Rossoneri waited for their moment to ignite.
Six minutes after the restart, that moment arrived. Crisp interplay down the right ended with Fikayo Tomori threading a precise low cross that Rafael Leão guided beneath Ivan Provedel to break the deadlock.
Milan pushed for a second, with Youssouf Fofana and Leão both going close, but their dominance went unrewarded.
Lazio nearly stole a dramatic equaliser late on when a strong penalty appeal was waved away, sparking protests that saw Massimiliano Allegri sent off.
Milan held firm to protect the points, extending their unbeaten home run to seven matches.
The Rossoneri now await Napoli’s result against Roma to see whether they remain top heading into December, while Lazio’s ongoing struggles away from home continue, with six blanks in their last seven league trips.
