World’s richest man, Elon Musk, has reignited the age-old debate about wealth and emotional fulfilment after sharing a candid reflection on social media.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the Tesla and SpaceX CEO wrote, “Whoever said ‘money can’t buy happiness’ really knew what they were talking about.” The message quickly went viral, attracting more than 47 million views and over 334,000 likes within hours.

Many followers interpreted the post as a rare glimpse into the personal pressures that come with extreme wealth, sparking conversations about mental health, success, and life satisfaction among billionaires.

The discussion also gained traction in Nigeria, where social media users drew parallels between Musk’s statement and Afrobeat star Adekunle Gold’s 2021 song It Is What It Is. In the track, the singer echoes a similar sentiment, singing, “Money no dey bring happiness oh / Na when I get money I realise oh.”

Musk’s post has since fuelled global debates on whether financial success truly equates to happiness, with many arguing that emotional fulfilment, relationships, and purpose play a far greater role than money alone.
