Suarez Late Brace Stuns PSG as Sporting Surge into Champions League Top Eight
Sporting CP climbed into the Champions League top eight after Luis Suarez struck twice late on
to seal a dramatic 2-1 victory over Paris Saint-Germain in Lisbon.
PSG started brightly and controlled possession, forcing early saves from Rui Silva, while a
Warren Zaire-Emery header was ruled out for a foul in the build-up.
Despite their dominance, the holders failed to capitalise, with Sporting growing into the contest
and threatening through Francisco Trincao and Geny Catamo.
The breakthrough came in the 74th minute when Suarez calmly finished after Catamo’s deflected
shot fell kindly in the box.
PSG hit back quickly, substitute Khvicha Kvaratskhelia curling a superb equaliser into the top
corner.
Just as the visitors pushed for momentum, Sporting delivered the final blow.
Suarez reacted quickest to head home the rebound from Trincao’s effort in stoppage time,
sealing a famous win and extending Sporting’s strong home record against French sides.
