In response to the attack that claimed 75 lives in Woro village, Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, Vice President Kashim Shettima paid a visit to the state on Saturday.

A statement issued by his media aide, Stany Nkwocha, said the trip was undertaken on the instruction of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Nkwocha explained that the President directed the Vice President to personally assess the situation and deliver the Federal Government’s condolences to the bereaved families.

Shettima was received on arrival by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, alongside other state officials.

The governor had earlier described the victims as local Muslims “massacred for refusing to submit to extremists preaching a strange doctrine,” while initial reports suggested over 100 fatalities.

The attack, which occurred on Tuesday night, reportedly followed a rejected attempt by militants to forcibly indoctrinate members of the community.

Earlier, Shettima’s media aide also revealed that the vice president, who departed Abuja on Saturday, was conveying President Tinubu’s assurances that the Federal Government would ensure justice for the victims.

Nkwocha said the Vice President was delivering President Tinubu’s firm message that the Federal Government remains resolute and will not rest until those behind the attacks are identified, arrested and prosecuted.

Earlier, President Tinubu had denounced the assaults on the Woro and Nuku communities, characterising the attackers’ actions as brutal and inhumane. He also disclosed that security forces had already launched operations to track down the perpetrators.

The President confirmed that an Army battalion had been deployed under Operation Savannah Shield to neutralise the attackers and safeguard vulnerable communities.

He further stressed the need for stronger coordination between federal and state authorities to support victims of the attacks and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
