Tinubu Stumbles During Ceremonial Welcome in Türkiye
An otherwise routine ceremonial welcome for President Bola Tinubu in Türkiye was briefly interrupted on Tuesday after he lost his footing during the march-past at the parade ground.
The moment happened as the President took part in the guard of honour. Alongside him was his, Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. The incident momentarily drew attention before proceedings resumed normally.
Footage shared by Turkish online news outlet Nefes Gazetesi shows Tinubu walking with Erdoğan when he slipped and fell.
Security personnel moved in immediately to assist him.
It is Tinubu’s first official visit to the European nation, a reciprocal engagement following Erdoğan’s visit to Nigeria in October 2021 under former President Muhammadu Buhari.
Tinubu’s visit aims to consolidate the long-standing cordial relations between Nigeria and Türkiye, while exploring new areas of cooperation to deepen a mutually beneficial partnership between the two countries.
During his stay, the President is expected to hold bilateral talks with Erdoğan and key Turkish officials, focusing on trade, investment, and security collaboration. Both nations are also set to discuss joint initiatives in technology, infrastructure development, and cultural exchange.
Analysts note that the visit presents an opportunity for Nigeria to strengthen economic ties with Türkiye and attract foreign investment, as well as to reinforce diplomatic relations in the context of broader regional and global partnerships.
