Zverev Powers Past Tien to Reach Australian Open Semis
Alexander Zverev fired his way into the Australian Open semi-finals as the German overwhelmed American youngster Learner Tien with a dominant serving display in Melbourne.
Last year’s runner-up won 6-3, 6-7(5), 6-1, 7-6(3), hammering down 24 aces to book a last-four clash with either world number one Carlos Alcaraz or home favourite Alex de Minaur.Zverev made the stronger start, taking the opening set before Tien showed impressive resolve to level the match in a second-set tiebreak.
But the experienced German quickly reasserted control, racing through the third set and holding firm under pressure in the fourth to seal victory in another tiebreak. The 28-year-old, still chasing his first Grand Slam title, admitted his serve proved decisive, while praising the fearless performance of 20-year-old Tien, who was appearing in his first major quarter-final.
