“I Showed Him Love” — Carter Efe Opens Up About Relationship With Wizkid
Nigerian content creator and streamer Carter Efe has spoken candidly about his relationship with Afrobeats superstar Wizkid, revealing mixed feelings despite his admiration for the singer.
Speaking during an interview with BBC Pidgin, Carter Efe praised Wizkid’s artistry, describing himself as a longtime fan of the Grammy-winning musician’s sound, creativity, and overall musical style.
However, the comedian and streamer admitted that he has struggled with Wizkid’s personality, claiming the affection and support he publicly showed the singer over the years were never returned.
“My relationship with him? I love Wizkid. I won’t lie. I love Wizkid. I love his craft, man. But I have issues with his personality. I showed that guy love, he didn’t show me love. But I still love his music and style,” he said.
Carter Efe’s comments are closely tied to his 2022 breakout hit Machala, a tribute track dedicated to Wizkid. The song became a viral sensation and significantly boosted Efe’s popularity across social media and the Nigerian entertainment scene.
According to Efe, the tribute was created out of genuine admiration for Wizkid and was never primarily intended for fame or financial gain. Despite the song’s success and widespread attention, Wizkid never publicly acknowledged either the track or Carter Efe himself.
