Winner of Big Brother Naija Season 5, Olamilekan Agbeleshe popularly known as Laycon, has revealed that his victory on the show was life-saving for his mother.

Speaking during an interview on the Echo Room podcast, the reality star disclosed that his mother was seriously ill while he was in the house and was on the verge of death by the time he exited the competition.

According to Laycon, the prize money he won from the show played a crucial role in covering her medical expenses. He stated that finishing as runner-up would not have provided enough financial support for her treatment.

“When I was in the house, my mom was ill. By the time I came out, my mom was close to death. I’m saying it categorically now, if I did not win that show… my mom would be dead now,” he said.

Laycon also addressed his transition into the film industry following his rise to fame. He explained that many producers approached him for roles based on his popularity rather than proven acting ability.

“Before I went to film school… producers approached me because of how I did in the house. You haven’t seen me act, so I don’t think it’s about talent. It’s because it’s me, and you want your movie to do numbers,” he noted.

Responding to speculation that his involvement in film and education stems from challenges in his music career, Laycon dismissed such claims, emphasizing that public figures are often subject to varying interpretations.

“Everybody will always have their opinion… people think it’s because you didn’t do well in music. It’s what people think,” he added.
