CURACAO DEFY ECUADOR TO SECURE FIRST-EVER WORLD CUP POINT
Curacao claimed the first FIFA World Cup point in their history after holding Ecuador to a remarkable 0-0 draw in Kansas City.
The Caribbean nation was inspired by goalkeeper Eloy Room, who produced a record-breaking display with 15 saves, the most ever made in a 90-minute World Cup match.
Room repeatedly denied Ecuador’s attack, frustrating Enner Valencia, Gonzalo Plata and John Yeboah throughout the contest.
Despite being under pressure for long periods, Curacao remained disciplined and even threatened on the counterattack, with Hernan Galindez also required to make key saves for Ecuador.
The historic draw keeps Curacao’s hopes of reaching the knockout stage alive ahead of their decisive final group match against Ivory Coast.
Meanwhile, Ecuador’s failure to score leaves them needing a result against Germany to keep their qualification hopes intact.
