Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos State – May 14, 2026 – In a significant boost to youth empowerment, 15 young individuals from Ibeju-Lekki have successfully secured paid industrial placements at the Lekki Free Trade Zone. This milestone comes as part of the Lagos State Cooperative College (LASCOCO) Skill-Up 1.0 programme, aimed at equipping local youth with essential skills for the evolving job market.

The beneficiaries, who were trained under a comprehensive skills acquisition initiative funded by the Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, received their placement letters earlier today. They are set to commence their industrial training this Friday, marking a crucial step in their professional development.

“This is what grassroots leadership looks like,” stated a local government representative. “We are turning training into tangible job opportunities, preparing our youths for the jobs and industries that are shaping our future right here in Ibeju-Lekki.”

The Skill-Up 1.0 programme, part of the SHIEELD Agenda, focuses on developing practical skills that align with the demands of local and international industries. By offering paid placements, the initiative not only provides financial support to the participants but also enhances their employability in a competitive job market.

Community leaders and residents have expressed optimism about the positive impact this initiative will have on the local economy and youth engagement. The placements at the Lekki Free Trade Zone, a hub for commerce and industry, are expected to provide invaluable experience and networking opportunities for the young trainees.

As Ibeju-Lekki continues to grow as a key player in Lagos State’s economic landscape, programs like LASCOCO’s Skill-Up 1.0 are essential in ensuring that the youth are not only prepared but are also active contributors to the region’s development. The local government remains committed to fostering initiatives that empower its residents and promote sustainable growth.

With the first cohort of trainees set to begin their journey this week, the community looks forward to seeing the success stories that will emerge from this transformative programme.
