MBAPPE BRACE FIRES FRANCE INTO WORLD CUP KNOCKOUTS.
France booked their place in the Round of 32 with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Iraq
in a weather-disrupted Group I clash on Monday.
Kylian Mbappe opened the scoring in style after just 14 minutes, rifling home from
the edge of the area before adding a second, after Iraq gifted possession to
Ousmane Dembele shortly after the restart, following a two-hour thunderstorm delay.
Dembele then capped a fine performance by grabbing France’s third goal late on,
scoring his first-ever goal at a major international tournament.
The victory sends France into the knockout stages with six points from two matches,
while Iraq faces a must-win encounter against Senegal to keep their qualification
hopes alive.
