NIKLAS SULE ANNOUNCES RETIREMENT FROM FOOTBALL.

Former Germany international Niklas Sule will retire from professional football at the
end of the season, with the Borussia Dortmund defender confirming the decision on
the “Spielmacher” podcast.

The 30-year-old centre-back, whose Dortmund contract expires in June, said a knee
injury suffered against former club Hoffenheim in April convinced him it was time to
step away from the game.

“I want to announce that I will retire this summer,” Sule said.

The defender admitted he feared suffering a third cruciate ligament injury after the
incident, and revealed he broke down emotionally before receiving a positive scan
results.

“I went into the shower and cried for 10 minutes,” he said.

Sule joined Dortmund from Bayern Munich in 2022 and made 109 appearances for
the club.

Across his career, he played 299 Bundesliga matches and earned 49 caps for
Germany.

Reflecting on his time at Dortmund, Sule described the club’s dramatic final day of
The 2022/23 title race as one of the most emotional moments of his career.
