Tottenham Hotspur forward Xavi Simons has been ruled out for the rest of the
season and the upcoming FIFA World Cup after suffering a torn anterior cruciate
ligament (ACL) during the club’s 1-0 league win at Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The Dutch attacker initially tried to continue after the incident, but was later
stretchered off, with scans confirming a serious knee injury that could sideline him for
up to a year.

Simons admitted the emotional toll, saying, “They say life can be cruel, and today it
feels that way. My season has come to an abrupt end… Honestly, I’m heartbroken.
“All I’ve wanted to do is fight for my team, and now the ability to do that has been
snatched away from me… along with the World Cup.”

Manager Roberto De Zerbi had initially played down concerns, stating, “I spoke with
him, and he feels better than when he got his injury,” before the full extent became
clear.
The setback is a major blow for the Netherlands, with coach Ronald Koeman already
dealing with several injury concerns ahead of the tournament.
