The Nigeria Police Force and other security operatives have intensified security measures across the country ahead of today’s planned nationwide protest by the Take-It-Back Movement and allied civil society groups. The demonstration, which seeks to address economic hardship, civil rights clampdowns and the political crisis in Rivers Stat is scheduled to take place in major cities including Abuja – where protesters plan to converge at the National Assembly.
The police have described the protest as “ill-timed and mischievous,” stating that it coincides with the maiden National Police Day. The Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi questioned the motive behind staging the protest on a day set aside to honour police contributions to national security.
Despite security warnings, protest leaders including Juwon Sanyaolu and Adenola Michael insist the rally will proceed peacefully—calling it a democratic necessity. Police commands across states including Lagos, Adamawa and Ogun have dispatched personnel to key locations to maintain order—urging citizens to remain calm and law-abiding.
