AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan is on the mend after a frightening on-field collision forced him to spend the night in hospital following Friday’s 4-0 victory over Udinese in Serie A.
The incident occurred early in the second half when Maignan rushed out of his area to intercept the ball and accidentally clashed heads with teammate Alex Jimenez.
The impact left Maignan unconscious, prompting immediate medical attention and his removal from the pitch on a stretcher.
Despite the alarming scene, Milan later confirmed that Maignan was conscious and under observation overnight. He is expected to return to Milan on Saturday.
Jimenez, who also suffered a blow to the head, continued playing for a short period before being substituted around the 69th minute.
“Fortunately, Mike is fine,” said Milan defender Matteo Gabbia after the match. “The doctor reassured us that he’s in hospital only for tests. He’s a great captain and we’re all relieved.”
The victory keeps Milan’s momentum strong in the league, but concerns remain over the health of their key players following the incident.
