Nigeria’s Ese Brume will kick off her 2025 athletics season this weekend at the 115th Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa, marking her return to competition after a tough end to 2024.
The long jump star, who finished fifth at the Paris Olympics last August, has been recovering from injuries sustained in a serious car accident in the U.S. last December.
After resuming light training in March, she’s now ready to face a strong field that includes Olympic champion Tara Davis-Woodhall and fellow Olympian Quanesha Brooks.
Brume, a Tokyo 2020 bronze medalist, is determined to bounce back this season, having vowed never to miss a major podium again.
The Drake Relays will serve as a key test as she begins her build-up to the World Championships.
