The 2025/26 Nigeria Premier Football League season will start on August 22 and end on May 24, 2026, the league’s chairman Hon. Gbenga Elegbeleye has confirmed.
Speaking in Abuja, Elegbeleye said the new calendar aligns with global football standards and reflects the NPFL’s growing professionalism.
He praised the just-concluded 2024/25 campaign, which saw Remo Stars crowned champions with three games to spare.
A total of 380 matches were played, producing 286 wins, 92 draws, and 552 home goals. The season also saw 16 missed penalties and over 1,100 cards issued.
Yusuf Anas claimed the golden boot with 18 goals, followed by Rabiu Ali with 13. Anas notably scored back-to-back hat-tricks.
Elegbeleye also celebrated increased TV coverage, saying over 400 matches were broadcast live, and highlighted progress in financial discipline and player welfare.
The 2025/26 league winner will receive ₦200 million in prize money.
