On Wednesday, June 18, 2025, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State officially introduced its candidates for the upcoming Local Government elections, including 57 candidates for chairmanship and 376 for councillorship. The event took place at the Ikoyi office of prominent party figure Chief Bode George, who also presented flags to the candidates.
During the ceremony, George, a former Deputy National Chairman of the PDP, encouraged the candidates to engage actively with the electorate in order to secure votes for the party at the grassroots level. He emphasized the importance of the event, stating, “Today’s purpose is to showcase our candidates and dispel the false rumors claiming that the PDP is no longer viable. Those claims are utterly baseless.”
He further asserted, “The PDP remains the only significant political force in Nigeria. I feel sympathy for those who have chosen to leave for other parties. I urge the voters in Lagos to support the PDP. We must consider what the APC has contributed in comparison to the promises and achievements of the PDP.”
George called on the candidates to approach their campaigns with determination and energy across all wards and local government areas. He advised them to be honest with the electorate, emphasizing the need for genuine leadership that prioritizes the welfare of the people over personal gain. “You must embody servant leadership, serving the community as Jesus did, rather than seeking to be served.”
He expressed concern over the current economic and security challenges facing the nation, reminding the government of its primary duty to ensure the safety and well-being of its citizens. He also urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) to perform their responsibilities diligently.
Addressing internal party issues, George acknowledged that every organization faces challenges but expressed confidence that these issues would soon be resolved.
Chief Sunday Olaifa, the State Vice Chairman of the LPDP (Lagos West), praised the party’s leadership for facilitating participation in the elections, stating, “This election is winnable for the PDP. We must unite and work together for victory.”
Additionally, Chief Onikepo Oshodi, another key figure in the PDP, stated, “The PDP is poised to lead in Lagos State and Nigeria once again. We are confident that the APC will not succeed in 2027.”
