Newcastle United are in talks to sign Eintracht Frankfurt forward Hugo Ekitike in a deal valued at around €75 million, which would surpass their current transfer record set by the €71.2 million signing of Alexander Isak in 2022.
While negotiations remain ongoing and no agreement is close, Newcastle have maintained long-term interest in the 23-year-old, whose proposed move to St James’ Park collapsed on deadline day in January 2022.
Ekitike enjoyed a strong 2024-25 season with Frankfurt, scoring 22 goals and providing 12 assists after joining permanently for €17.5 million from Paris Saint-Germain last summer following a loan spell. His contract with the Bundesliga club runs until 2029.
The French forward helped Frankfurt secure a third-place Bundesliga finish and Champions League qualification, while also scoring in their Europa League semi-final tie against eventual winners Tottenham Hotspur.
Manchester United have also shown interest in Ekitike, while Chelsea explored a move before signing Liam Delap and Joao Pedro earlier this summer.
Frankfurt have become accustomed to high-value sales, with Omar Marmoush joining Manchester City in January for around €70-75 million and Randal Kolo Muani moving to PSG for €95 million in 2023.
