The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has debunked claims that he has announced his political plans ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Reacting to widespread speculation following his appearance on TVC’s Beyond The Headlines, Obasa clarified that he did not declare any governorship ambition or intention to run for Senate.
He explained that the decision on his future role, like that of other members, will be determined by the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“As politicians, we must wait for the party hierarchy to guide our next steps, whether that is remaining as a lawmaker, seeking the governorship, or running for the Senate. People should avoid misinterpreting the party’s plans,” he said.
Obasa urged supporters to remain calm, stressing that the priority for now should be on national development.
“Our focus should be on moving the country forward. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is working hard and achieving progress daily,” he added.
While making it clear that he is not retiring from politics, the Speaker acknowledged the need to prepare for life after public office.
“Nigeria is our home, the APC is our family, and the party continues to grow stronger by the day. Ambition must always be guided by party discipline,” Obasa stated, adding that political decisions must come through consultations and engagement with party leaders.
