As the Oyo State House of Assembly resumes plenary today after a six-week recess, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has alleged a plot by loyalists of Governor Seyi Makinde to intimidate and victimise Hon. Ibrahim Shittu, the lawmaker representing Saki West Constituency.
In a statement issued yesterday in Ibadan, the party’s Publicity Secretary, Olawale Sadare, praised residents of the state—particularly those in Saki—for rejecting what he described as a fraudulent loan and for resisting the assembly leadership’s and the PDP’s attacks on Shittu.
“We have uncovered plans by individuals close to Governor Makinde to go after Hon. Shittu on the suspicion that he leaked information about the N300 billion loan. The truth is that he merely responded to a question from his party,” Sadare said.
According to him, the alleged plan includes mobilising thugs to the assembly complex on Tuesday to physically harass Shittu and other APC lawmakers.
“Also, the House leadership has concluded arrangements to accuse Hon. Shittu of violating assembly rules, set up a kangaroo panel, and hand him an indefinite suspension,” the party further alleged.
Sadare described the moves as a calculated attempt to stifle opposition in the state, accusing “unscrupulous elements around the governor” of orchestrating the campaign against Shittu.
He appealed to prominent figures within and outside Oyo State to intervene and urged security agencies to safeguard Shittu’s rights and ensure his safety.
Shittu, a member of the APC, recently attracted public attention after disassociating himself from the assembly’s controversial approval of Governor Makinde’s N300 billion loan request. The loan was reportedly passed with only 13 of the 32 assembly members in attendance, sparking widespread concerns about due process.
