Dangote Petroleum Refinery has alleged that the Depot and Petroleum Products Marketers Association of Nigeria (DAPPMAN) demanded an increase of N75 per litre on petrol and diesel before agreeing to buy from its gantry.
According to the refinery, implementing such a hike would raise the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) to about N950 per litre and diesel to around N1,090 per litre in some parts of the country.
The refinery explained that while it sells petroleum products at its gantry price, DAPPMAN prefers taking delivery through coastal logistics, an option that would add N75 per litre in extra costs.
With Nigeria’s daily consumption estimated at 40 million litres of PMS and 15 million litres of Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), this would amount to an additional N1.5 trillion annually, a cost the marketers effectively expect the refinery to absorb and pass on to consumers.
“We wish to make it clear that we have no intention of increasing our gantry price to accommodate such demands, nor are we willing to pay a subsidy of over N1.5 trillion, a practice that historically defrauded the federal government for many years.
“DAPPMAN and other marketers are welcome to lift products directly from our gantry and benefit from our logistics-free initiative,” the refinery stated.
