Authorities at the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Kuje have intercepted an attempt to sneak illicit substances into the facility.

The incident occurred on Saturday around 12:45 p.m. when a visitor, identified as Njimogu Ikedi, tried to gain access to an inmate while concealing items believed to be cannabis and other psychoactive drugs in his clothing.

According to the Federal Capital Territory Command, the contraband was discovered during a standard search by officers stationed at the entrance. The suspect was immediately detained and handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for investigation and possible prosecution.

The Controller of Corrections for the FCT, Christopher Jen, who confirmed the arrest, warned that the service would not tolerate attempts to compromise the integrity of the facility. He emphasized that all visitors with hidden agendas would be exposed by the vigilance of correctional officers.

Jen also appealed to members of the public to collaborate with the service in its mission to reform inmates and ensure public safety.

This interception comes a little over a year after a similar incident in which a woman was caught trying to smuggle drugs into the same correctional centre.
