The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has clarified that its endorsement of President Bola Tinubu for the 2027 general elections is rooted in ideology rather than mere political convenience.
Speaking in an interview on Arise Television on Monday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Mazi Opara Ejimofor, explained that Governor Charles Soludo’s support for Tinubu is based on two key factors.
“Governor Soludo has had a personal relationship with President Tinubu spanning over two decades.
“In addition, APGA operates under an unwritten convention of aligning with the party at the center, a tradition that existed long before Soludo’s administration,”
Ejimofor said.
He added that the endorsement also aligns with APGA’s broader vision of entrenching political ideology in Nigeria’s democracy.
“There is an ongoing debate about institutionalizing political ideology to end the era where parties are treated as mere vehicles for pursuing selfish political ambitions,” he noted.
