Renowned Nigerian business mogul and chairman of the Ibru Organisation, Olorogun Oskar Ibru has died at the age of 67.

His family confirmed the news on Wednesday, revealing that he succumbed to a brief illness.

While the statement withheld further details, the announcement has drawn tributes across the nation.

Oskar Ibru, a central figure in Nigeria’s corporate landscape, was part of the influential Ibru dynasty and is remembered for his leadership in preserving and expanding the diverse conglomerate founded by his late father, Olorogun Michael Ibru.

The Ibru business empire cut across multiple sectors including shipping, oil and gas, real estate, and general commerce, positioning the family among Nigeria’s foremost business dynasties.

His passing marks another chapter in the Ibru family history, occurring less than 10 years after the death of the patriarch, Michael Ibru, in 2016. Funeral details are expected to be released soon by the family.

Among the many tributes, Ovation International publisher Dele Momodu paid heartfelt respect to the late business leader. In a social media post, Momodu wrote: “News has just reached me in the skies that one of Nigeria’s most recognisable businessmen, OLOROGUN OSKAR IBRU, has passed on… He was an extremely friendly gentleman, and a socialite per excellence, who was loved so passionately by families and friends. He was the son of the business titan, OLOROGUN MICHAEL IBRU… Rest in peace, dear Brother.”

The death of Oskar Ibru, who for decades played a vital role in Nigeria’s business and social circles, is being regarded as a huge loss to the corporate community and to the legacy of one of the country’s most illustrious families.
