President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday hosted Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd.), the former sole administrator of Rivers State, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Ibas arrived at the Villa around 5:50 p.m., dressed in brown traditional attire, in the company of Finance Minister and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, and EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukayede.

Although details of the meeting were not disclosed, insiders suggested it was connected to Ibas’s six-month tenure as interim administrator of Rivers State.

The discussion, which lasted two hours behind closed doors, saw Ibas avoid media questions regarding the political and administrative challenges that defined his stewardship in the volatile oil-producing state.

Tinubu had appointed Ibas, a retired Vice Admiral and former Chief of Naval Staff (2015–2021), as sole administrator following the declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State.

His mandate was to restore peace and ensure stability amid deepening rifts among political factions.

The visit came just hours after Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, met with Tinubu to reaffirm his loyalty and commitment to peace.

Fubara explained that he sought the President’s counsel to sustain stability as he resumed his duties after recent political upheavals.

The governor’s assurance follows months of tensions with his estranged political godfather, the current FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.

Meanwhile, some presidency officials disclosed that Ibas’s appearance at the Villa could also be interpreted as a gesture of gratitude to the President for entrusting him with the sensitive assignment of overseeing the state during a turbulent period.
