The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has affirmed that former Information Minister Jerry Gana is welcome to voice his opinions concerning the party’s 2027 presidential ticket, but it stressed that ex-President Goodluck Jonathan has not officially declared his candidacy.
Debo Ologunagba, the PDP’s national publicity secretary, made the remarks on Monday, responding to Gana’s assertions that Jonathan would contest under the PDP banner.
Ologunagba clarified that while individuals are free to express their viewpoints, neither he nor the party speaks on behalf of Gana or Jonathan. He noted that the PDP’s immediate focus is the national convention slated for November 15–16 in Ibadan, Oyo State.
“I don’t speak for Professor Jerry Gana. People can express their opinion. But … Jonathan has not said he’s not a member. … Our party has eminently qualified Nigerians … at the governors’ level … Their performances … show their capacity,” he said.
Ologunagba further emphasized that the PDP already boasts many capable leaders and that any decision about the 2027 ticket would come in due course.
Meanwhile, speculation regarding Jonathan’s involvement in the 2027 presidential race has intensified, prompting responses from both the presidency and party officials.
