The Federal Government has cancelled the ceremonial parade earlier scheduled to mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary on Wednesday, October 1.

The announcement was made late Monday in Abuja through a statement by Segun Imohiosen, Director of Information and Public Relations in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF).

Imohiosen clarified that the decision to cancel the parade does not diminish the importance of the milestone. “The cancellation is in no way a diminishment of the significance of this milestone anniversary. The government remains committed to celebrating Nigeria’s 65th year of independence with dignity and enthusiasm,” the statement read.

He further explained that while the parade will not hold, all other scheduled programmes for the Independence Anniversary remain intact.

“The Federal Government regrets any inconvenience the cancellation may cause. We appreciate the understanding, cooperation, and support of Nigerians, members of the diplomatic corps, and invited dignitaries. We also call on citizens to rally behind President Bola Tinubu’s reforms to make Nigeria a greater nation,” Imohiosen added.

With this decision, Nigeria will mark its 65th Independence Anniversary through alternative events without the traditional parade that has often been the centerpiece of the celebration.
