Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has rejected recent media reports suggesting he plans to step aside for another presidential aspirant in the 2027 race.

In a statement delivered via his media aide, Paul Ibe, Atiku insisted he never explicitly made or implied such a commitment.

According to the statement, a careful review of both the original Hausa version of his interview with BBC Hausa Service and the English translation revealed no wording that suggested he would yield his candidacy to someone else.

Atiku’s team said he only emphasized that younger and prospective aspirants are free to join the contest, and that he would support such a candidate if one emerges from a fair primary.

Paul Ibe criticized some media outlets for stretching interpretations to create sensational narratives, calling such reporting “mischief.”
