Comedian and TV host Teju Babyface has opened up about the harsh realities he faced after relocating to the United States, admitting that he once deeply regretted the decision.

In a candid video shared on his YouTube channel, Teju reflected on what he described as the “grass is greener syndrome,” noting that many people believe life abroad is easier until they experience its hidden challenges.

“The issue with life is that we almost suffer from ‘the grass is greener on the other side’ syndrome. From where we’re standing, another place looks rosy and appealing, but we don’t see the struggles that come with it,” he said.

According to the comedian, his move to America felt like a necessary next step for his career and family. However, things took a tough turn shortly after their arrival, when the COVID-19 pandemic hit.

“When we were leaving Nigeria, I knew it was the right move. But when COVID started just months after we arrived, I was convinced I had made the biggest mistake of my life. For about three years, I thought I had taken a ruinous risk,” he confessed.

Teju shared that the experience tested his resolve and made him relate deeply to a popular lyric by legendary juju musician King Sunny Ade.

“For the first time, I understood what King Sunny Ade meant in one of his songs. I’d been singing it all my life but never truly grasped the meaning until that period,” he added.

Despite the difficult years, the comedian’s reflection highlights the often-overlooked emotional and practical struggles many face when chasing dreams abroad.
