Nigerian Olympic legend Enefiok Udo-Obong has received high praise from Dunamis Icon following his recognition as the 2025 Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) Technical Official of the Year.

Udo-Obong, famed for anchoring Nigeria’s 4x400m relay team to Olympic gold at the Sydney 2000 Games, earned the continental honour for his outstanding role in coordinating the technical operations of the CAA U-18 and U-20 Championships held in Abeokuta, Ogun State, earlier in July.

Chairman of Dunamis Icon, Sir Itiako Ikpokpo, described the award as a fitting tribute to Udo-Obong’s commitment and professionalism, urging him to see it as a stepping stone toward greater global accomplishments.

“Having worked closely with Enee during the maiden Niger Delta Sports Festival in Uyo, I’m not surprised by his recognition as Africa’s best,” Ikpokpo said. “His attention to detail and strong work ethic stood out when he served as Technical Director for our event. The success we achieved in Uyo was largely because of his technical brilliance and relentless drive.”

Dunamis Icon, which owns the Niger Delta Games franchise, successfully hosted the inaugural edition in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, from April 1–8, drawing widespread commendation for its organisation and structure.

The CAA credited Udo-Obong’s precision and leadership as the cornerstone of the Abeokuta championship’s success, acknowledging his ability to execute large-scale athletic events with world-class standards.

Beyond the African continent, Udo-Obong has continued to make waves internationally. Earlier in March, he served as Technical Director for the Asian U-18 and U-20 Athletics Championships in Saudi Arabia, where he currently works as Technical Consultant to the Kingdom’s Athletics Federation.
