The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has described the survival of British-Nigerian boxing champion Anthony Joshua in a fatal auto crash as an act of God’s mercy.
Pastor Adeboye made the remark during the church’s monthly thanksgiving service, while reflecting on a recent report of the accident that occurred along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. According to reports, two of Joshua’s friends, Ayodele Kevin and Ghami Sina, lost their lives in the crash.
The cleric revealed that Anthony Joshua had reportedly exchanged seats with his friends shortly before the accident. Those who took his place in the vehicle died, while the boxer survived.
“I read in the newspapers yesterday that our boxing champion, Anthony Joshua, exchanged seats with someone before the accident. The people he exchanged seats with died. I don’t know why, but the mercy of God said someone would still be alive today,” Adeboye said.
Using the incident as a message to the congregation, Pastor Adeboye emphasized the importance of recognizing God’s mercy in everyday life. He urged worshippers to take the lesson personally and remain grateful for divine protection.
The statement has since drawn attention, with many reflecting on the tragedy and the narrow escape that spared the boxing star’s life.
