Controversial Nigerian street-pop artist Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has once again taken aim at his father, alleging neglect, financial exploitation, and manipulation, while insisting his life is better without him.
The outburst, which marks the second public fallout between the singer and his father in two years, surfaced just days into the New Year when Portable went live on social media to level a series of explosive accusations. In the emotionally charged video, the Zazu crooner accused his father of distancing himself during moments of crisis, particularly when he faces police troubles or marital disputes, while allegedly maintaining relationships with his partners for financial benefit.
Portable’s comments come in the wake of a reported physical altercation between him and one of his baby mamas, Asabi. During an Instagram Live session that lasted over 10 minutes, the singer expressed frustration, claiming his father only shows interest when money is involved.
“Even my dad is only concerned with getting money from me,” Portable said. “There is no time in the police station that you will ever come to my aid as your son, but you can collect phone numbers of my baby mamas and collect money from them.”
He further accused his father of interfering in his personal life, alleging dishonesty during property projects, including inflated building costs and mismanagement of funds. Portable claimed his father exaggerated expenses for building materials and roofing projects, describing the actions as deliberate attempts to exploit his success.
The singer also revisited painful memories from his childhood, alleging that his father was absent during his upbringing and failed to provide education or care. He claimed that after his mother’s death, his father showed little concern and only reappeared after he became famous.
“My life is good without you. I am a hero,” Portable declared. “You did not take care of me. You did not send me to school. When there is war, you will be absent.”
In the same livestream, Portable referenced the late singer Mohbad, expressing fear of betrayal and vowing to protect his life and properties. He alleged that his father was positioning himself to inherit his wealth and warned that he would not allow such an outcome.
“You can never inherit me,” he said. “I will live long to take care of my kids and my properties.”
Portable also spoke emotionally about his aunt, Alhaja, whom he credited with raising and supporting him after his mother’s death. He accused his father of cutting ties with her and spreading allegations against her in order to isolate him financially and emotionally.
As of the time of reporting, Portable’s father has not publicly responded to the allegations. The singer’s latest outburst has once again sparked intense debate online, with reactions ranging from sympathy and concern to criticism over his repeated public family disputes.
