Security Operatives Take Malami Into Custody After Kuje Release
Abubakar Malami (SAN), former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, was taken away by security personnel on Monday moments after regaining his freedom from the Kuje Correctional Centre in Abuja.
According to multiple sources, officers of the Department of State Services (DSS) took custody of Malami as soon as he stepped out of the facility.
However, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) later distanced itself from the development, stating that it did not effect his re-arrest.
Officials of the Nigerian Correctional Service confirmed that Malami had earlier been granted release after complying with all bail requirements.
One correctional official said Malami completed his bail documentation and was freed earlier in the day, while another disclosed that he subsequently departed the centre in a vehicle belonging to the DSS.
A video obtained by our correspondent showed Malami being led to a black vehicle shortly after leaving the correctional centre.
In the footage, he was heard asking, “Who is the oga among you? Can I see your ID card?”
Efforts to obtain comments from the DSS Deputy Director of Public Relations, Favour Dozie, were unsuccessful, as calls to her phone were not returned.
