President Bola Tinubu is set to undertake a two-day state visit to the United Kingdom from March 18 to 19, 2026, after receiving a formal invitation from King Charles III.

The visit was announced on Sunday through a statement posted on the official X account of the British Royal Family, which disclosed that the Nigerian President would be received by King Charles and Queen Camilla at Windsor Castle.

Tinubu will be accompanied on the trip by his wife, the First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu.

“The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Mr Bola Ahmed Tinubu, accompanied by the First Lady, Mrs Oluremi Tinubu, has accepted an invitation from His Majesty the King to undertake a state visit to the United Kingdom from Wednesday, 18 March, to Thursday, 19 March, 2026. The King and Queen will host the visit at Windsor Castle,” the statement read.

Reacting to the announcement, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, described the visit as historic, noting that it would be the first state visit by a Nigerian leader to the UK in 37 years.

He stated that President Tinubu and the First Lady would be hosted by King Charles and Queen Camilla during the visit.

The last Nigerian leader to make a state visit to the United Kingdom was former military president, General Ibrahim Babangida, in 1989.
