Faithia Williams Returns to Promote Efunroye: The Unicorn After Mother’s Death
Nollywood actress Faithia Williams has resumed promotion of her forthcoming film, Efunroye: The Unicorn, weeks after the passing of her mother.
The highly anticipated movie, scheduled to premiere in cinemas nationwide on May 1, 2026, tells the story of a formidable historical figure, with Williams playing a central role in what she describes as her first cinematic debut.
The Nation reports that the actress lost her mother on Saturday, February 7, 2026, just two days after celebrating her 55th birthday. In an emotional post shared on social media, Williams opened up about the weight of her grief, revealing that each day since her mother’s passing has felt overwhelming.
She disclosed that although she is yet to lay her mother to rest, she made the decision to continue promoting the film, choosing to channel her pain into purpose.
According to the actress, grief has been heavy and all-consuming, but her commitment to the project — which she considers a long-held dream and a legacy — has given her strength.
Describing the film as “a purpose wrapped in frames and films,” Williams said Efunroye: The Unicorn represents a story she fought hard to tell and a promise she is determined to honour.
The film chronicles the rise of Efunroye, portrayed as a merchant, legend, and kingmaker, set against the backdrop of a time before Lagos became a powerful empire.
While acknowledging that she is still mourning, Williams emphasised that life and purpose do not pause for pain. She noted that when audiences see her promoting the film, they should understand it as an act of resilience — a daughter pushing through heartbreak to fulfil a promise to herself and to her late mother.
Efunroye: The Unicorn is expected to hit cinemas across the country on May 1, 2026.
