The Federal Government has inaugurated a ministerial committee to oversee the implementation of TETFund High Impact Intervention Projects across 12 selected tertiary institutions nationwide.

Inaugurating the Ministerial Monitoring, Evaluation and Implementation Committee in Abuja on Monday, Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, said the initiative was designed to ensure transparency, accountability and strict adherence to project timelines.

The projects, executed in partnership with the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), cut across federal and state-owned universities drawn from the six geopolitical zones of the country.

The beneficiary institutions include: Federal University of Technology, Minna; African Aviation University; Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University; Nigerian Army University Biu; Federal University of Technology, Babura; Shehu Shagari University of Education; and Federal University of Technology, Owerri.

Others are Enugu State University of Medical and Applied Sciences; Federal University of Technology, Ikot Abasi; Delta State University, Abraka; Federal University of Technology, Akure; and University of Ilesa.

Alausa explained that the high-impact projects are aimed at transforming universities into centres of practical training, applied research, innovation and solution-driven learning, shifting away from a predominantly theory-based system.

He lamented the persistent gap between classroom theory and practical skills among engineering and technology graduates, noting that the shortfall reduces employability, weakens industry confidence and limits Nigeria’s competitiveness in the global technology space.

The monitoring committee is chaired by the President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Ali Rabiu, alongside other academics and stakeholders tasked with ensuring the effective execution of the intervention projects.
