‘I Almost Quit Music’ — Superboy Cheque Opens Up on Acne Struggle and Career Doubts
Nigerian rapper and singer Superboy Cheque has revealed how a severe battle with acne nearly forced him to walk away from his budding music career.
Speaking during a recent interview on Yanga FM, the ‘Zoom’ crooner recounted how insecurity about his appearance escalated after his rise to fame, leading him to make a decision that worsened his condition.
Cheque explained that following the success of “Zoom” and his subsequent record deal, he became increasingly conscious of his looks, knowing he would frequently appear on camera for interviews and public engagements.
Describing himself as a perfectionist, the rapper said the pressure pushed him into buying a makeup product in hopes of clearing his acne — a decision he now regrets.
“I struggled with acne years back. It was terrible. My desperation to cure it led me to buy a makeup that almost disfigured my face. It was embarrassing. I almost quit music,” he said.
According to him, the product caused severe facial damage, leaving him shocked when he woke up to see the impact on his skin.
“I went to get a makeup from a store to clear it, but instead it almost disfigured my face. I woke up one morning and realised that my whole face had been damaged,” he recalled.
Cheque admitted that the experience took a toll on his self-esteem at the time, making him avoid cameras and even shy away from approaching women.
Despite the setback, the artiste said he eventually overcame the challenge and continued pursuing his music career, turning what was once a painful experience into a story of resilience.
